Halo Beriti - Ethiopia, Washed
An exceptionally clean washed Ethiopian, showcasing classic florals, juicy orange, and fresh citrus brightness. We’ve found this coffee to be a textbook example of washed Ethiopian—clean citrus, delicate florals, and a juicy, textured body. It stands out for its clarity and mouthfeel, offering more weight and sweetness than many washed lots.

Ethiopia’s coffee industry is rich and complex but faces unique challenges. Coffee is harvested from a patchwork of environments—wild forests, roadside trees, garden plots, and plantations—then processed locally in blended batches in washing stations and co-operatives. This diversity means consistent, traceable single-origin lots are difficult to source year after year.
The sector struggles with limited infrastructure and connectivity—only about 19% of Ethiopians have reliable internet—hindering long-term relationships between farmers and exporters. Strict government restrictions on foreign ownership further limit investment. Export logistics pose another hurdle. In the face of these difficulties Cafe Imports have established The Single Farmer Project which directly sources “Farm Traceable” lots of coffee from producers in Ethiopia. We are excited to be able to offer two incredibly fresh lots of coffee from this program this year.
The coffee was grown by Tadese Teko on his 8-hectare farm near the town of Worka, in the Gedeo Zone of southern Ethiopia. Tadese typically produces washed coffees, which are usually blended at local washing stations. But thanks to the quality and volume of his harvest, this lot was selected as a single-farmer release.
